(Dedicated to all young persons who are presently considering ending their lives and everyone who loves them and wishes to help them restore their joy of living.)

"Come, novice;
Heart's the Key, unlock the Door.
Use the Powers.
Come, as others come before;
Love is now the One and only Rule.

Rise, master; wise of Woman,
once a fool.
Holy water.
Son/Daughter of the Truth,
Love is now your One and only Rule

Chorus:
In the Dark of the Womb,
Light is the Seed;
Love is the only Rule.
Sail in the revelation
of Her Magic tide in you.
In the Dark of the Womb,
Heart is the Key;
Love is the only Rule
and you are the Celebration
of the Wisdom of the Truth.

Rock of Eden,
once again, be fertile plain;
the Wisdom of your history is plain.

[Chorus]

Oh, traveler, wherever you wander,
ponder;
Light becomes Life through Love
in the Heart of the Womb.
Come traveler, silently call
in the name of
Her Soul touching you,
Mind teaching you
All that is, from before everything
that ever shall be."

[The words of Wisdom of the Dark aspect of the Great Mother to a child
caught in the darkness of depression and despair.]

Introduction

Each year in the United States of America, youth die more by suicide than any other cause, except traffic accidents. Most of these acts are committed by males using firearms. According to the Centers for Disease Control, child suicide is at an all time high. Up to 11% of gay, lesbian and transgendered teens and up to 30% of Native American teens die by their own hands, annually. Suicide among HIV+ teens is increasing at an alarming rate. While most teen suicides in the US are committed by caucasian males, since 1980, the sharpest increase of child suicide has occured among males of African descent; up more than 20%, generally; up more than 300% among African American males 10 to 14 years young. The purpose of the Silence is to help decrease these statistics.

Silence

"...this moment of Silence..."

"...this moment of Silence..." is a musical [progressive/alternative pop and solo voice chant] expression of the story of Persephone and her descent into the Underworld, (i.e. the Dark, the Abyss; the realm of Shadow in the Unconscious/subconscious Mind). The songs of "...this moment of Silence..." form a suite which interprets Persephone's entire progression from her initial plunge into hopelessness and despair, through her cycle(s) of Transformation to her Self-empowerment and Rebirth (with the aid of the Dark Goddess, Hekate). The following is an excerpt from the album's liner notes; (using Netscape 3.1, click on the play button to hear a sample of the song):

  • "...Persephone, daughter of [Goddess aspect] Demeter, is abducted to the Underworld where she languishes in the Abyss; (song #1, Cry Darkly).

  • Hekate (Dark aspect of the Great Mother, Guardian of the Unconscious, Triune Goddess of the Mysteries of Life, Death/Transformation and Rebirth) responds to Persephone and leads her into the knowledge of the Powers available to her in the Abyss, teaching her how to use, not fear, the Dark (song #2, Love is the Only Rule).

    The moral of the story: even in our darkest times, we have a constant Friend, companion and consort within us Who nutures us and guides us lovingly, carefully and successfully through the crossroads of our personal Abyss to self-discovery, empowerment, recovery and personal Rebirth."

    "...this moment of Silence..." helps us to re-view the Dark as a natural, spiritual experience which enables us to tap into the wellspring of Life issuing from the Higher Power(s) we all have freely available to us, hidden in the depths of our innermost being. The experience of being plunged into our personal Underworld, (with or, as is usually the case, without our apparent consent), is not one to despair and languish in; it is not an indication that we are helpless or that our lives are hopeless; it is an opportunity to encounter the most powerful aspects of who we are as spiritual beings. The message and the music of "...this moment of Silence..." are vital to all persons, everywhere, who are transiting intense, personal crisis, particularly those we know and love who may be quietly considering ending their lives.
